Αναμφίβολα ένας απο τους πιο αγαπητούς ξένους ποδοσφαιριστές που πέρασαν από την ομάδα της Ξάνθης. Ο Βούλγαρος Ivan Mitev γεννήθηκε στις 27 Ιουνίου του 1966 στο Sliven. Έμαθε την τέχνη του ποδοσφαίρου στις ακαδημίες της F.C Sliven στις οποίες εντάχθηκε από την ηλικία των 8 ετών.
Στα 18 του υπογράφει επαγγελματικό συμβόλαιο με την ίδια ομάδα και ντεμπουτάρει (στην θέση του λίμπερο) στις 10/11/1984 στον αγώνα Locomotiv Sofia-F.C Sliven (1-0). Με την ομάδα αυτή ο Mitev είχε συνολικά 178 συμμετοχές, ενω κατέκτησε και το κύπελλο Βουλγαρίας το 1990 όταν στον τελικό η Sliven επικράτησε της CSKA Sofia με 2-0.Στην Ξάνθη ο Ivan ήλθε το καλοκαίρι του 1993 και ντεμπουτάρισε στην πρώτη αγωνιστική στο 0-0 κόντρα στην ΑΕΛ. Έκτοτε, στις τρεις σεζόν του στην ομάδα αγωνίστηκε σε 80 παιχνίδια πρωταθλήματος, σημειώνοντας 3 τέρματα.
Τον Ιούνιο του 1995, τερμάτισε την συνεργασία
του με τους ακρίτες και υπέγραψε στον Α.Ο. Καβάλας, ο οποίος έπαιζε την Β' κατηγορία. Τον βοήθησε να ανέβει στην Α' εθνική παίζοντας σε 30 παιχνίδια και παρέμεινε σε αυτόν μέχρι και το 1999, παίζοντας σε 82 παιχνίδια πρωταθλήματος όπου σκόραρε 4 τέρματα, αλλά και σε 1 ματς κυπέλλου.Το καλοκαίρι του 1999 και για 6 μήνες βρέθηκε στην ομάδα της Αναγέννησης Καρδίτσας στην Β' εθνική κατηγορία, παίζοντας σε 11 ματς πρωταθλήματος και 4 κυπέλλου και σκοράροντας από ένα τέρμα σε κάθε διοργάνωση. Τερμάτισε την καριέρα του σαν ποδοσφαιριστής την ίδια σεζόν στο πρωτάθλημα της Γ' κατηγορίας με την φανέλα του Α.Σ Νεάπολης Θεσ/νίκης, με 20 συμμετοχές.
Το 2000 ξεκινά την προπονητική του καριέρα στις ακαδημίες του ΑΠΟΕΛ όπου παραμένει μέχρι το καλοκαίρι του 2001, καθώς την ίδια εποχή προσλαμβάνεται απο την Skoda Ξάνθη για να αναλάβει τις ακαδημίες της. Φεύγει τον Οκτώβρη του 2002 και έναν μήνα αργότερα γίνεται προπονητής στην Ασπίδα Ξάνθης, όπου παραμένει μέχρι τον Σεπτέμβρη του 2003.Το 2006 αναλαμβάνει βοηθός προπονητή στην Βέροια (όταν εκεί ανέλαβε ο Μλαντένοφ) και απολύθηκε λίγο καιρό αργότερα όταν άλλαξε ο προπονητής.
Απο τον Οκτώβριο του 2007 είναι προπονητής της ομάδας του Ελαιοχωρίου Καβάλας που αγωνίζεται στην Α1 της ΕΠΣ Καβάλας.

He learned the basics of football in the academies of F.C Sliven and signed his first professional contract with the same team in 1984 at the age of 18. Ivan made his debut (as a sweeper) on 10/11/1984 in a match against Locomotiv Sofia. Mitev played for F.C Sliven in 178 games and won the Bulgarian cup in 1990 in the final against CSKA Sofia.
In the summer of 1993 Ivan Mitev became a member of Skoda Xanthi. He made his debut in a match against A.E.Larissa. During his three year contract he appeared in 80 games scoring 3
On June 1995 he signed a contract with division B' team A.O.Kavala. He contributed in Kavala's promotion to division A' playing in 30 games and remained there for another three seasons playing in 82 championship games (4 goals) and in a single cup game.
He afterwards played for 6 months at Anagennisi Karditsa in division B' (11 championship and 4 cup games with one goal in each competition) and finished both the season and his career at A.S. Neapolis Salonica (third division) with 20 games.
In 2000 Mitev began his career as a trainer at APOEL's youth teams and took the same position one year later at Xanthi's youth team. On November 2002 he became the trainer of Aspida Xanthi's team where he remained until September of 2003.
In 2006 he was Stoiko Mladenov's assistant at F.C Veria and left the team after Mladenov was fired.
Since October 2007 he is the trainer on amateur club Elaiochori Kavala. goals.
